The Federal Court of Amazonas responded to a request from the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) and suspended the approval of four oil exploration blocks in the Amazonas Sedimentary Basin and the Marginal Accumulation Area of Campo de Japiim, until traditional indigenous communities are heard impacted by the activities.
According to the decision, granted on a preliminary basis, the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) and the Union are prevented from signing a contract with the companies Atem Distribuidora and Eneva. The blocks are part of the 4th Permanent Concession Offer Cycle for oil exploration blocks.
Furthermore, it was established that in the case of block AM-T-133, the Union must take measures to cut off the section that overlaps the Maraguá Indigenous Land from the exploration area.
According to the MPF, the impacts of oil exploration in the region will be felt in at least 11 conservation units.
