At least two explosions have occurred at the military hospital in the Afghan capital. Eyewitnesses report that IS fighters broke into the building. Apparently the attack is continuing.
B.Numerous people were killed or injured in an attack on the military hospital in the Afghan capital Kabul. The ruling Taliban’s figures on the number of dead and injured vary between 15 and 19 and 34 and 50 respectively. According to the Interior Ministry, there were two explosions at the entrance to the hospital in the city center. After that, shots are said to have been fired. A rising cloud of smoke can be seen in pictures on social media.
The state news agency Bachtar reports that after an explosion at the entrance gate, according to eyewitnesses, several fighters from the terrorist militia “Islamic State” (IS) broke into the hospital and fought with security forces there. According to local journalists, the attack continued in the early afternoon. Nobody has yet claimed the attack.
A doctor from the Sardar Mohammad Daud Chan clinic told AFP that he had heard continuous rifle fire: “I think the attackers go from room to room like the first time it was attacked.” In 2017, the military hospital was already once attacked by IS fighters. At least 30 people were killed in the seven-hour attack.
The IS has repeatedly challenged the Taliban since they took over military power in Afghanistan in mid-August. Most recently, the terrorist militia claimed two attacks on mosques with dozen dead. The Taliban have fought ISIS since it appeared in Afghanistan in early 2015, despite its ideological proximity.
