A shocking train crash on a viaduct in Buenos Aires this Friday caused 90 injuries, of which 30 had to be hospitalized. The collision occurred at 10:30 in the morning between a passenger train that connects the capital with the southwest periphery and a formation that was carrying materials for railway maintenance work. The causes of the accident, in which there were no fatalities, are still unknown.
The public company Trenes Argentinos reported in a statement that as a result of the crash “the van of the empty train and the locomotive and the first car of the passenger train derailed.” The passengers told local media that the shaking lasted about 10 seconds and they panicked when they saw that they were on a bridge and everything was shaking. “I thought we were going to fall,” one of them said.
According to the city’s head of emergencies, Alberto Crescenti, among the most seriously injured there are two “with head trauma”, who were evacuated by helicopter to Santojanni Hospital.
