An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck Tenggara Basitan province in western Indonesia today.
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said in a statement that the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 273 kilometers away and at a depth of ten kilometers.
So far, there have been no reports of material or human losses as a result of the earthquake.
Earthquakes regularly strike various parts of Indonesia, as it is located on the Pacific belt known as the “Ring of Fire”, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
