The Baghdad Operations Command issued a statement regarding the arrest of a criminal who killed his brother and raped his two daughters in the Iraqi capital.
The statement said: “After conducting an investigation and gathering information about the presence of the accused in the Nahrawan area, he was arrested for the crime of (murder, incest, and violence), where he was found in possession of a Kalashnikov rifle and its accessories.”
During the initial investigation, the accused openly admitted to the crime of raping his two nieces, 12 and 15 years old.
The double rape came after he killed their father earlier.
Meanwhile, during the investigation with the criminal’s family, the authorities discovered that he had abused his 9-year-old son, with bruises on his face and a bent back.
These crimes caused widespread shock among the pioneers of social networking sites, speaking of the serious violations that the phenomenon of societal violence, especially domestic violence, had reached.
They questioned the reasons that drive a man to the point of killing his brother and raping his two daughters, demanding that the most severe punishment be inflicted on him so that he would serve as an example to other perpetrators of violence of all kinds, including the families.
This horrific crime comes in light of the increasing frequency of domestic violence incidents in Iraq, and the victims are mostly women and children, amid widespread criticism by Iraqi civil and human rights organizations for the weakness of punitive measures to deter the perpetrators of domestic violence, and the lack of legislation and laws against this violence as it should.
Observers and experts believe that the high rates of societal violence in Iraq are a natural result of the accumulation of economic, security and health crises in the country during the past few years, especially in light of the outbreak of the Corona virus, its grave economic and psychological consequences, and the expansion of poverty and illiteracy.
