Snellink is working on the season of his breakthrough. The South Hollander finished second in the National Championships allround and managed to qualify as reserve for the Winter Games in Beijing, where he did not play. At the World Allround Championships in Hamar, Norway, he could be counted among the outsiders for a medal.
In addition to Huizinga, national champions Marcel Bosker and Patrick Roest will compete this afternoon at the World Allround Championships. In the women’s competition, Antoinette de Jong, Irene Schouten and Merel Conijn defend the Dutch colours.
Yesterday, the corona virus turned out to be a major bummer at the World Sprint Championships, also in Hamar, Norway. Canadian Laurent Dubreuil, who led the men after the first day, had to leave halfway through the tournament due to a positive test. The title eventually went to Thomas Krol. In the women’s competition, Jutta Leerdam became world champion.
