His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, stressed that the current and future projects in the Emirate of Sharjah in general, and in the central region in particular, have many positive returns and benefits for the region and its people, noting that the impact of these projects extends to Multiple paths in terms of rehabilitating the people of the region with useful science, reviving its heritage, providing job opportunities, preserving the environment and its components and contributing to the development of its bio-environmental diversity.
This came in a speech delivered by His Highness yesterday morning, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, during laying the foundation stone for the project of the Academy of Environmental and Natural Sciences in Al Dhaid. His Highness indicated that the academy will work on graduating specialists through its integrated institutes concerned with studying desert sciences, agriculture, animal and veterinary sciences, stressing that the academy’s graduates will work in the various projects in the region after they are qualified as necessary and obtain scientific degrees, in addition to working to increase Awareness and concern for the environment, which contributes to the preservation of the available natural components of animal species, trees, seeds and others. His Highness said that the Institute of Desert Sciences will be dedicated to studying desert science, water and seeds, and represents the specialized academic arm of the Seed Bank in Al Dhaid, which works to preserve the vegetation cover of the region by preserving, providing, producing and multiplying various seeds, as well as contributing to the preservation and development of natural reserves.
His Highness added that the Agricultural Institute will graduate agricultural engineers working in the field of supervising productive and fruitful agriculture of all kinds, and the Animal Sciences Institute will graduate specialists in the care and breeding of many types of animals in the region, developing their breeds and encouraging their acquisition, in order to benefit from them in providing milk and food. While the Veterinary Institute will graduate qualified cadres in the care and treatment of different animals. His Highness announced the start of studies at the academy in the month of September, provided that the diploma and bachelor degrees are available, where the student can obtain a diploma after completing two years in the specific specialization, and continue for two additional years to obtain a bachelor’s degree.
Upon his arrival, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah laid the foundation stone for the building of the Academy of Environmental and Natural Sciences in the city of Al Dhaid and signed the decree establishing the Academy of Environmental and Natural Sciences in the Emirate of Sharjah.
The foundation stone laying ceremony for the Academy was attended by Ali Maihad Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Consultative Council of the Emirate of Sharjah, Dr. Tariq bin Khadim, Head of the Human Resources Department, Dr. Khalifa Musabeh Al Tunaiji, Head of the Municipal Affairs and Agriculture Department, Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority, and Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander General of Sharjah Police, Engineer Salah bin Butti Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Initiatives Implementation Authority (Mubadara), Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Protocol and Hospitality Department, Dr. Khaled Omar Al Midfa, President of Sharjah Media City (Shams), and Dr. Mansour bin Nassar, Head of the Legal Department of the Government of Sharjah, and a number of officials The heads and members of the municipal councils of the central region, and the notables of the region.
Ruler of Sharjah issues a decree establishing the Academy of Environmental and Natural Sciences
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, issued Emiri Decree No. 8 of 2022 regarding the establishment of the Academy of Environmental and Natural Sciences in the Emirate of Sharjah. The decree stipulates that a university academy will be established in the Emirate of Sharjah under the name “Academy of Ecology and Natural Sciences.” It is owned by the Government of the Emirate of Sharjah.
The decree also stipulated that the academy’s main headquarters should be in the city of Al Dhaid, and it may establish branches and offices for it inside and outside the country. The academy consists of the following institutes: 1. Desert Sciences Institute. 1. Desert Sciences Institute. 2. Agricultural Institute. 2. Agriculture Institute. 3. Institute of Animal Science. 3. Zoology Institute. 4. Veterinary Institute. 4. Veterinary Institute. This decree shall be effective from the date of its issuance, and the concerned authorities shall implement it, each within its jurisdiction, and shall be published in the Official Gazette.

Yesterday morning, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, inspected the residential buildings of Al Wusta Canal employees and the University of Sharjah, Al Dhaid branch. His Highness toured the corridors of the residential buildings and was briefed on the facilities they contain that provide amenities and integrated services for their residents, and learned about the most prominent stages of their implementation and the level of privacy for the family and their children and the means of entertainment allocated to them.
His Highness watched a video about the implementation of residential buildings during the previous stages, future plans for the construction of additional buildings, and the accompanying projects for the surrounding area. The 17 buildings consist of a ground floor and an additional floor, comprising of 68 residential units, surrounded by outdoor gardens, play and entertainment areas and car parking. The area surrounding the buildings will include a commercial center in addition to a mosque that can accommodate 400 worshippers, and other vital services.
His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, handed Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of the Sharjah Radio and Television Authority, and Dr. Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi, Director of the University of Sharjah, the keys to the residential buildings allocated to the employees of Al Wusta Channel and the University of Sharjah branch in Al Dhaid, wishing the employees and their families stability, tranquility and success.
