The Ukrainian ambassador said, according to Israeli media, that Kiev prefers “to hold talks with Russia in Jerusalem instead of Minsk, because the latter (the capital of Belarus) is considered a close ally of Russia.”
He added that Ukraine does not believe in the legitimacy of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
According to “Channel 12” on Israeli television, Tel Aviv is studying the Ukrainian request, and has not given a final answer in this regard until this moment.
And the Hebrew Kan channel had reported earlier that the Ukrainian president had asked Bennett to mediate with Russia to reach a ceasefire.
Bennett tried to mediate earlier, during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in Sochi, but the latter was angry, according to what journalist Amit Segel revealed in the newspaper “Yediot Aharonot”.
According to Siegel, Putin described Zelensky as a “Nazi”, and it would be best for Israel to stay away from this conflict.
The phone call between Bennett and Zelensky discussed the situation in the fighting in Ukraine, and in the Kiev region in particular, according to Bennett’s office.
Bennett offered Zelensky to provide Israel with humanitarian aid.
Bennett expressed his hope that the fighting would end quickly, and “expressed his sympathy with the Ukrainian people in these difficult days they are going through.”
In the same context, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Israeli ambassador to Moscow to reprimand Israel’s condemnation of the Russian military operation, which was stated by Foreign Minister Yair Lapid.
Israel refrains from taking a clear position against Russia, due to the fear that Russia will stop its military coordination with it regarding the raids in Syria.
