World number one Ashleigh Barty has won the Women’s Player of the Year award for the second time, the WTA announced on Tuesday, while Britain’s Emma Radocano, the US Open champion, won this year’s newcomer award.
Barty, who won the title in 2019, has won five FA titles this year, including her second major title of her career, winning Wimbledon when she beat Czech Karolina Pliskova in the final. She also defended her title in Miami and won in Stuttgart and Cincinnati, ensuring she finished the year as the world number one for the third year in a row.
Radocano, 19, participated in the US Open as a qualifier, and was ranked 150 in the world at the time, before winning the title and becoming the first British woman to win a major championship in 44 years.
Czech Barbora Krichkova won the Federation Award for Most Improved Player of the Year, after winning the singles title at the French Open.
Together with her partner Katerina Sinyakova, she won the best duo of the year, an award that the same duo won in 2018.
Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro won the Player of the Year award.
