The head of the State Duma Health Protection Committee Dmitry Khubezov appreciated the introduction of new restrictions in the country due to the omicron strain of the coronavirus. About this he spoke out on the air of the TV channel “Russia-24”.
The MP called the introduction of new measures senseless due to the omicron strain of COVID-19. In his opinion, there is no need to close the borders of Russia against the background of the stratified situation.
“This, in fact, makes no sense. At the moment, I think that no additional measures, besides those that have already been introduced, are required, ”he stressed.
In addition, Khubezov urged to speed up the immunization process in the country, despite the increased rate of vaccination against coronavirus.
“We do not just need to vaccinate, now 80% of the population say, but we need to vaccinate them in about six months, better even faster,” the parliamentarian concluded.
On December 6, Rospotrebnadzor confirmed the first cases of the omicron strain in Russia. The virus was found in two citizens who flew in from South Africa. These are the first officially identified cases of the new strain in the country.
Immunologist, Ph.D. Nikolay Kryuchkov admitted that the omicron strain COVID-19 could displace the delta by January 2022. “If we close air traffic with South African countries, we will win only three weeks or a month and a half,” the specialist noted.
