The battle between Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and South African-born American billionaire Elon Musk, owner of X, gained a new chapter this Thursday (8).
In a public event at the Miraflores Palace, the seat of the Venezuelan presidency, in Caracas, Maduro announced the suspension of the social network for ten days in the country.
The dictator claimed that Musk “violated all the rules of the social network Twitter itself, now known as X”.
“And he violated by inciting hatred, fascism, civil war, death, confrontation among Venezuelans; he violated all the laws of Venezuela. In Venezuela, there is a law, and we will ensure that it is respected. That is why I signed a regulation, based on a proposal made by Conatel, the National Telecommunications Commission, and decided to take the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, out of circulation for ten days in Venezuela so that it can present a response. [ante a Conatel]. Get out, X, for ten days, from Venezuela!”, said Maduro.
In recent days, the dictator has called Musk to a fight and accused him of orchestrating a hacker attack against the Chavista National Electoral Council (CNE), which proclaimed his victory in the presidential election on July 28. He also said that the billionaire is part of a satanic sect.
Musk said he accepts the fight and that if he wins, Maduro will have to leave power. The billionaire also recalled in X that a reward of up to US$15 million, offered by the US State Department, is still valid for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Maduro.
The amount was offered in March 2020, when Maduro was indicted in a New York federal court on charges of narcoterrorism, conspiracy to smuggle cocaine into the United States, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices.
