Iraqi authorities announced, on Thursday, the arrest of five people suspected of involvement in targeting a military base housing American forces, which resulted in the injury of seven Americans.
The Security Media Cell within the Joint Operations Command reported that “through in-depth legal investigations, hearing witness statements, cross-referencing information, and obtaining judicial approvals, five of those involved in this illegal act were arrested.”
The statement did not mention any information about the detainees.
On Monday, two missiles targeted the Ain al-Assad base in Anbar province in western Iraq, wounding “five American personnel and two American contractors,” according to a Pentagon official.
The Iraqi government in Baghdad stressed its “categorical rejection of any attack from inside or outside Iraq on Iraqi lands, interests and targets.”
She stressed “rejection of reckless actions and practices targeting Iraqi bases, diplomatic missions, locations of international coalition advisers, and anything that would raise tension in the region or drag Iraq into dangerous situations and repercussions.”
