Harris said she was “proud to have the broad support needed to become the Democratic Party’s nominee” and replace President Joe Biden in the race for the White House after he announced his withdrawal.
American media reported that the majority of the Democratic delegates, numbering about 4,000 people and tasked with officially choosing the party’s candidate, have already announced their intention to support Harris.
“I look forward to being able to formally accept this appointment soon,” the US Vice President said in a statement.
In the same context, Harris’ campaign announced that it had raised $81 million in the first 24 hours after announcing her bid for the Democratic nomination to run for president.
The campaign said in a statement that the amount “includes funds raised through the campaign, the Democratic National Committee and joint fundraising committees.”
