Demon Slayer can be defined in all respects as one of the most emblematic shonen of the new generation of manga along with Jujutsu Kaisen: the product made by Koyoharu Gotōge has a charm of its own that has quickly made it an unmistakable pearl among lovers of Japanese culture. This incredible popularity has led to the creation of not only movies and books dedicated to the franchise, but also video games: from classic fighting games full of special effects, such as the one we already reviewed The Hinokami Chronicles, we also move on to titles with a more unexpected and particular gameplayas happens in the title we are reviewing today.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Sweep the Board! It can be safely defined as the “Mario Party with Tanjiro and Nezuko” of the situation: a game, in short, that wants to bring the world of the manga phenomenon of the moment into the homes of more casual gamers. Now we ask ourselves: mission accomplished?
Demon Slayer Like You’ve Never Seen It Before
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Sweep the Board! it is a title endowed with few waysbut well structured: we have the classic game mode on the scoreboards and the possibility of individually selecting the minigames that we will unlock during the games.
Let’s start from the canonical “party” mode. First, we will have to select our character: the rostercomposed of 12 characters taken from the original work, has a purely aesthetic valueas the characters are not accompanied by skills or statistics. In short, the choice can fall without problems on your favorite character.
Once we have selected the character (or characters, in the case where the party of 4 characters is made up of CPUs), set up our game by choosing the number of turns (we start from a minimum of 5), and other customizable elements, we can select one of the “scoreboard” scenarios available and start the game.
Let’s start by saying that each scenario has its own little lore and that every setting And characterized from References to the series: a choice that we particularly appreciate as it prevents the boards from becoming “anonymous” and provides a decent amount of variety to the experience.
As per good Mario Partywithin our game we will have to to roll the dice, to move on the board and, based on the arrival box, get bonuses or penalties: our goal will be to reach the special box designated by the Crow.
Each placement will allow you to obtain one of the two currencies which will be used to measure the score in the ranking: we have the coinsobtainable more frequently that we can spend in special shop spaces or earn by landing on benevolent spaces.
However what will really count are the points which we can obtain by reaching the box “indicated” by the Crow and fighting the Demons. Once we reach the Crow’s box, the Night: in this period of time, the demons to defeat and Nezuko will appear alongside the player with the lowest overall score to even out the match.
Reaching one of the boxes presided over by demons will trigger a special minigame-bossfight but, before talking to you about this specifically, let’s spend a few words on minigames in generalan integral part of the title’s gameplay.

Minigames: Simple but effective
THE minigames of the game are mostly simple arcade games: we have the memory game, a sort of “1…2…3… Star!”, a drawing minigame, one about selecting the buttons at the right time, and several similar ones in structure and duration.
Every minigamealbeit in its absolute simplicity, it fits well into the context and offers a good variety in gameplay: we have free-for-all minigames, but also games in which we have to divide the party into two teams. bossfight with the Demons are a perfect example of this, as they involve teamwork by the entire team through a rather pleasant rhythm-game style minigame and, once the life of the boss in question has been reset, a calculation of scores for each individual.
As for the difficulty level in situations where we find ourselves challenging the CPU, we would like to point out the presence of Different levels of challenge for each character: this does not mean that at the highest difficulty level we will find ourselves facing “important” challenges, but there are some situations in which even the CPU will be able to give us a hard time.
In any case, it is a question of simple games And easily understandable by everyone, made even easier by the presence of a “test” that precedes the actual game which allows even those who are not gamers (or younger kids) to fully understand the few basic mechanics present.
From this point of view, even though we believe that this kind of experience cannot satisfy those who are looking for a medium or medium-high level challenge, we cannot help but be satisfied: the target of the title appears obvious at this stage and the minigames designed and structured for the target of very young/non-gamers/casual gamers they succeed perfectly in their intent (we won’t hide from you that even during the review phase, even though we were playing in a group of expert gamers, we had fun given the “party game” circumstance that was clear from the beginning).
Focusing on the artistic side of the product, we express our appreciation: polygonal models of main characters, secondary characters and bosses are well done and of high qualityas well as in-game artwork and scenarios.
The graphic style in all its phases it results clean, effective And never a victim of “horror vacui”: i colors are well selected and never “forced” for the sole purpose of filling the screen, thus giving back the sensations of the anime. We also appreciated the choice of music and dubbing in English (even though the lyrics are in Italian).
Since it is a party game titlethe estimated longevity is difficult to quantify: in addition to the classic mode and the mini-game re-enactment mode There are some in-game shops which allow you to use the coins obtained during the games on the scoreboards for gadgets and customization items that make the experience more lasting and stimulatingbut there are no further elements that dilute the experience.
