Prosecutor’s office: actor Baldwin carelessly handled weapons on the set of “Rust”
The US Attorney’s Office has provided new details about the tragedy on the set of the film “Rust”, during which actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot cameraman Galina Hutchins with a loaded revolver. About it writes The Guardian.
It is noted that the actor carelessly handled firearms during the filming of the film. The department documents also allege that Baldwin exhibited “erratic and aggressive behavior during filming,” which created potential safety concerns.
Special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Erlinda Johnson said the actor pointed a revolver and fired a blank cartridge at a crew member. The prosecutor’s office also said that the actor “used the largest gun” as a pointer, keeping his finger on the trigger at times when it was not required.
Cameraman Galina Hutchins died in October 2021. While filming the western film Rust, Baldwin fired a gun, accidentally killing her and injuring the film’s director, Joel Sousa. The actor claimed that he did not pull the trigger, but merely cocked and released the hammer, following the instructions of Hutchins, who framed the shot. The gun was supposed to be loaded with blank cartridges, but they turned out to be live cartridges.
Baldwin was charged with manslaughter, but the charges were dropped in April 2023. However, in January of this year it became known that the actor was again charged in connection with the death of the cameraman.
