The Ministry of Health increased from R$500 to R$755, equivalent to 51%, the amount of aid granted to people with mental disorders who were hospitalized for a long time in psychiatric and custodial hospitals.
“The strategy seeks to encourage the expansion of these people’s network of relationships and their well-being, in addition to encouraging the full exercise of their civil, political and citizenship rights, outside the hospital unit”, says a note from the ministry.

The benefit aims to encourage the social reintegration and well-being of people who have been hospitalized for two or more years uninterruptedly. The aid is part of the De Volta para Casa program, which has already served around 8 thousand people in 20 years, according to data from the ministry in August 2023.
Last year, the ministry created a department to deal with mental health, focused on reactivating new services and rebuilding Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS) and Residential Therapeutic Services (SRT).
Another strategy to expand access to mental health is the construction of care units. The new Growth Acceleration Program (New PAC) provides for 150 new Psychosocial Care Centers (Caps) in all regions of the country, which will allow 13.4 million people to be served.
