A fire in a home in the Madrid municipality of Getafe has left at least 18 poisoned by smokeas reported a spokesperson for Emergencies 112 Community of Madrid. Two of the victims, a 49-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, have been transferred in mild condition to the Getafe and Leganés hospitals, while the rest have been discharged at the scene.
The event occurred around ten o’clock on Sunday night in a house on 7 Pensamiento Street, a block composed of a ground floor and five floors. The fire “was located in one of the basements of the building and has affected the rest of the upper homes with smoke,” details the spokesperson. Some neighbors have confined themselves to their homes to avoid being affected by the smoke, while others have gone down the stairs, flooded with smoke.
Summa 112 has treated 18 affected people in a field hospital, all residents of the property, and has discharged 16 of them. The remaining two, a 49-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, have been transferred in mild condition to the hospitals of Getafe and Leganés. The woman had an asthma attack, in addition to mild poisoning.
Seven fire crews from the Community of Madrid controlled and extinguished the fire and subsequently checked floor by floor “to make sure that the concentration of carbon monoxide was zero.” The flames have been located on one of the ground floors of the building, which also has five floors, and has affected the rest of the upper homes with smoke.
