Wolf: in St. Petersburg, security forces arrested 8 people for fraud in online stores
St. Petersburg police have neutralized a criminal group that engaged in fraud under the guise of online trading. Official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk reported this to Lenta.ru.
Eight residents of different regions of the country were detained; security forces confiscated phones, computer equipment, bank cards and other items confirming their criminal activities. Six of the suspects have been arrested.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the scammers created online stores and offered computer, household or construction equipment at low prices, but demanding full prepayment. After buyers transferred money to them, the scammers stopped contacting them.
Currently, police are investigating the involvement of the suspects in other similar crimes and are looking for their accomplices.
On June 14, it was reported that in the Stavropol Territory the police detained a 22-year-old fraudster who, under the guise of investing in cryptocurrency, defrauded 45 Russians out of three million rubles.
