Kapoor: India participated in Ukraine summit to understand different approaches
India participated in the Ukraine summit held in Switzerland to understand different perspectives, approaches and options to find a way forward towards a sustainable resolution of the conflict, explained Deputy Foreign Minister Pawan Kapoor, who represented New Delhi at the meeting. This is reported on website departments.
“In our opinion, only those options that are acceptable to both sides can lead to lasting peace. In accordance with this approach, we have decided to avoid association with the joint communique or any other document prepared as a result of this summit,” Kapoor said in a comment.
He said India supports any collective desire to promote a peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian conflict and its participation in the conference in Switzerland is in line with its approach that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue and diplomacy.
According to Delhi, such peace requires “the unification of all stakeholders and sincere and practical interaction between the two sides of the conflict,” so India will continue to interact with all interested parties.
The “Peace Summit” on Ukraine was held on June 15-16 in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, with the participation of 101 delegations from different countries and international organizations. Russia was not invited to the conference.
The final communiqué was signed by 84 delegates – 80 countries and 4 organizations. According to the adopted document, to achieve peace, a dialogue between both parties is necessary, and they should discuss the written provisions. They include clauses stating that all Ukrainian nuclear power plants must operate under the control of Kyiv and the supervision of the IAEA. Also, the Ukrainian side should gain access to its ports on the Black and Azov Seas and be able to supply its agricultural products to third countries without restrictions. Another condition is the exchange of all prisoners of war and the return of Ukrainian children taken to Russia home.
