Local and security sources announced on Sunday that terrorists launched an attack on Tuesday on the town of Mansilla in northeastern Burkina Faso, near Niger in the Sahel region of Africa.
The exact outcome of the attack is not yet known.
The town’s Pupils and Students Association said in a statement posted on Facebook that on June 11, “individuals with bad intentions attacked the detachment, our homes, shops and all other institutions of the country.”
She added, “Until now…many of our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters are still missing.”
A security source confirmed the attack, adding, “It is difficult to give an accurate toll, but losses were recorded in Mansilla.”
Military detachments spread across several parts of Burkina Faso include about 150 members.
The attack was claimed by a group linked to the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization.
Burkina Faso, located in the Sahel region of Africa, has been facing terrorist violence since 2015 carried out by armed movements linked to the extremist organizations Al-Qaeda and ISIS. These actions led to the death of about twenty thousand people and the displacement of more than two million people inside the country.
