Deputy Chepa: many spoke about the ineffectiveness of the communiqué at the peace summit
Some of the delegates who refused to sign the final document of the peace summit on Ukraine in Switzerland did not agree with its provisions, says Alexei Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, he spoke about the event.
“They don’t agree with these terms. Many other delegations that signed this document spoke about its inexpediency, its ineffectiveness, its unproductiveness without the participation of Russia. This suggests that this entire conflict occurred due to the fact that not only were the rights of citizens on the territory of Ukraine infringed, but there were also very serious threats to Russia. Naturally, these threats led to threats to Europe and the world as a whole,” the deputy believes.
The parliamentarian also believes that not all signatories fully agree with all the ideas of the communiqué.
“I think this is to a certain extent a diplomatic move on the part of these states. To alleviate the pressure on themselves from European countries, they probably did this,” he added.

On June 16, the summit on resolving the Ukrainian conflict ends in Bürgenstock, Switzerland. 101 delegations attended. Among the participants were representatives of both various states and international organizations. Russia was not invited to the event.
The final declaration was signed by 84 delegates – 80 states and 4 organizations. These included Türkiye, Serbia and Hungary. Armenia, Brazil, the Vatican, India, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Thailand, South Africa, and the UAE refused to sign the document.
The text of the document was later published, writes TASS. He proposes that all Ukrainian nuclear power plants, including the Zaporozhye NPP, should operate under the control of Kyiv and the supervision of the IAEA. Also, the Ukrainian side should gain access to its ports on the Black and Azov Seas and be able to freely supply its agricultural products to third countries. Kyiv insists that prisoners of war on both sides be released and that Ukrainian children transported to Russia be returned home.
The document suggests that dialogue between both sides is necessary to achieve peace. To do this, the parties should further discuss the provisions specified in the communiqué.
