Vice-president Geraldo Alckmin stated that the exemption of part of workers’ salaries will be a “fight” to be taken up by the government after the approval of the tax reform regulations. The statement was made during an event by the Federation of Cargo Transport Companies of the State of São Paulo (FETCESP), in Campos do Jordão, on the afternoon of this Saturday, 15th.
At the time, Alckmin defended the exemption to “not punish those who employ” and “encourage them to employ more”. The vice-president, who is also Minister of Industry and Commerce, stated that he had carried out a study to exempt the first salary.
“We did a study. If I waive my first salary, how much does it cost? It costs R$110 billion, 1% of GDP. If I get 1% of GDP in another way, I will relieve the first salary. Whoever wins two, you only pay for one. Whoever wins one pays nothing. Whoever wins three, you pay on two. But you would start relieving the payroll, relieving the first salary,” he declared.
Alckmin added: “This is a fight that we will have to do after the tax reform to encourage those who employ, to encourage more jobs to be created and people to have more opportunities.”
During the event, Alckmin also said that the government will make a fiscal adjustment “on the expenditure side” and stated that there will be a search for cuts in the short, medium and long term.
The vice president recalled the goal of closing the primary deficit, according to the fiscal framework, and said that “with monetary policy and solid fiscal policy, we will have cheaper interest rates”.
