After the latest update on the scrutiny of the 4 “blocked” sections for consultations in the Municipality of Lecce, – reports Il Quotidiano di Puglia – Adriana Poli Bortone and Carlo Salvemini they will have to challenge each other again. Here are the definitive data: Adriana Poli Bortone obtained 26,053 votes (49.95%) while Carlo Salvemini 24,373 (46.73%). Translated into numbers it means that for just 23 votes the right-wing candidate Poli Bortone failed to win in the first round. Whatever happens, in the new round of 23 and 24 Junethis is a defeat for the Left.
The outgoing mayor, Salveminisupported by the Democratic Party and seven other civic lists, was in fact almost beaten from the combative but octogenarian (next August 25th he will be 81 years old), Poli Bortone, the candidate of centre-right. Poli Bortone had ended up in the sights of criticism in the recent past, when on the occasion of the celebration of the 76 years of the Italian Social Movement (MSI), a group considered the heir of the Fascist Party, of which he was a member until 1995 had expressed herself thus: “I claim – said Poli Bortone in 2022 – my belonging to the Italian Social Movement, which I have never denied Why I have never found any element that led me to renounce militancy made of great intellectual honesty, respect for the rights of all and a clear vision towards a civil war that has seen deaths on both sides, deaths that I respect everyone, without distinction”.
