Medvedev: the world needs to finally get rid of the legacy of colonialism
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev wrote an article entitled “The time of the metropolis is up,” in which he stated the need for humanity to finally get rid of the legacy of the colonial system.
The Western world is moving towards global neocolonialism
Medvedev said that the term “neocolonialism” refers to the course taken in the mid-twentieth century by former metropolises to restrain the development of young nations that had barely become independent, and to compensate for their own damage incurred as a result of decolonization, as well as to interfere in the internal affairs of independent states.
Now the Western world is moving to global neocolonialism, that is, “a system of unequal economic and political relations imposed by Western countries on the rest of the world, based on their military power, the activities of Western capital, and international financial organizations,” Medvedev writes in the article.
In particular, the West lends to countries of the global South to maintain its own influence there. As a result, they cannot be fully independent due to the debt load. When making this or that decision, they are guided by “the opinion of their creditors,” Medvedev emphasized.

Western neo-colonialists know no borders
According to the politician, the ambitions of Western neo-colonialists know no boundaries; they have already come very close to Russian territory.
The ambitions of the new metropolises know no limits – neither economic nor political. And the neo-colonialists themselves do not want to respect the well-known strategic borders of other states. We have to admit: neocolonialism has long since come very close to the borders of our country
At the same time, the politician called the United States a global sanctions neo-metropolis, since they actively apply not only primary, but also secondary sanctions, undermining the sovereignty of third countries.
The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council emphasized that the first step in approaching Russia’s borders was the incitement of “color revolutions” in Georgia and Ukraine.

Medvedev spoke about the European integration of post-Soviet countries
Among other things, Medvedev also touched upon the topic of European integration of a number of post-Soviet states, in particular Armenia and Moldova.
Thus, in his opinion, the most likely scenario for European integration for Moldova could be its transformation into the northeastern outskirts of Romania. He recalled the occupation of Bessarabia by the Romanian regime in 1918-1940 and in 1941-1944, when mass repressions and forced Romanianization of the population were carried out.
It is naive to think that this time “the attitude towards the Moldovan population will be fundamentally different,” and Moldovan President Maia Sandu is leading the country “straight into neocolonial slavery,” Medvedev believes.
Also, he pointed out, the West promises Armenia mountains of gold and membership in the European Union in exchange for complete loyalty. However, this is just bait in a mousetrap, and the West will never open the doors of the “club of the elite” to Yerevan.
As for liberation from the neocolonial shackles of the West of Ukraine, this can be achieved by fulfilling the tasks of a special military operation (SVO), Medvedev believes.
As a result of the coup d’etat in February 2014, the country completely lost its political subjectivity. External control was actually established over the republic, examples of which are countless throughout the world
The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council sees the fulfillment of the tasks of the Central Military District as the only solution to this problem for Ukraine.

The need to get rid of colonialism is growing
At the same time, Medvedev is sure that more and more countries in the world want to free themselves from the legacy of the colonial system and continue to exist according to the principles of sovereign equality.
More and more countries on the planet are expressing their desire to live in a global community free from the legacy of the colonial system and based on the principles of inclusive multilateralism, sovereign equality, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect between countries with different political and social systems
Therefore, the politician believes, in the near future a new system of international relations will be formed, based on the principles of respect and benevolent non-interference, and where there will be no place for sanctions, exploitation and lies.
Medvedev sees the formation of such a system as one of the ways to “solve the problems of eliminating the socio-economic manifestations of neo-colonialism.” In his opinion, multipolar globalization, which “is at an accelerated pace replacing monocentric Western universalism full of injustice,” presupposes the creation of a completely new dialogue paradigm. At the same time, its foundations have already been laid, Medvedev noted.
