A young man driving a truck ran into a group of women jogging in a western German city on Saturday, wounding three women, a police spokeswoman said. The spokeswoman said that the 19-year-old man hit the group of women from the front, and that there was a danger to the life of one of the injured, noting that the three women, ages 45, 46, and 70, were transferred to hospitals.
A helicopter and fire engines rushed to the accident site. The spokeswoman added that the other five women in the group were not injured, but they were in a state of shock and receiving care. She went on to say that the truck driver was not injured according to the current situation, but she noted that the car’s windshield was severely damaged. The truck was impounded.
The spokeswoman stated that the police assume that the incident was a traffic accident, and stated that the driver deviated from the road in a rural area in a right-to-left turn for reasons that are not yet known. She said that she could not say whether the young man was driving at excessive speed.
