The return of McLaren
In the last two GPs of the season we witnessed the great recovery of McLaren on Red Bull, as demonstrated by Lando Norris’s first career victory in Miami and the English driver’s narrow success in Imola. In fact, on the Santerno circuit, the #4 made up ground on Verstappen towards the end, to the point of seriously calling into question the three-time world champion’s success.
From Woking to Maranello
McLaren’s great moment of form adds to the progress made by the team Ferrari, also the author of good performances as well as the only team, together with the aforementioned Woking team, to have won a victory this year with Carlos Sainz in Australia, where the Scuderia di Maranello defeated Red Bull complete with double. Now, on the eve of the Monaco GP, a question arises almost spontaneously among many fans, even more so after Max Verstappen’s concerns: will Red Bull be able to win in the Principality?
Strategic pressure
The two-time world champion expressed a personal opinion Mika Hakkinen, who won in Monte Carlo with McLaren in 1998: “Suddenly Max Verstappen’s dominance in Formula 1 no longer seems as certain as it did at the start of the season – explained the Finn in his column on Unibet – although he is driving brilliantly and has won 5 of the first 7 races, we have seen Ferrari and McLaren win, and Max’s margin of victory over Lando Norris at Imola last Sunday was just 0.7 seconds. The question is whether McLaren and Ferrari can keep the pressure on Red Bull. I think yes, there’s a huge amount of work to challenge the reigning World Champions, and there’s also the factor that while Max continues to produce wins, teammate Checo Perez has had a couple of tougher races recently, finishing 4th in Miami and 8th in Imola. However, unless Max and Checo manage to secure the front row, a two-car challenge from McLaren or Ferrari could put strategic pressure to Red Bull during the Grand Prix, thus opening up the possibility for someone else to get a win this weekend“.
