Meloni blesses the wedding between Rai-Mediaset antennas: a 2 billion euro giant is born
The government Meloni modifies the old Draghi government decree And blesses the future wedding between the Rai Way public TV antennas (65% controlled by Rai) with those of Ei Towers’ private TV (controlled at 40% from the former Mediaset, now Mfe, and 60% by F2i). Italy has in fact approved a decree that allows Viale Mazzini to sell a stake in the tower company, provided that the sale is compatible with aaggregation operation with the competitor Hey Towersthe other tower company controlled by the F2i fund and Mfe-MediaForEurope.
The decree, reports Milan Finance, establishes that Rai, which currently owns 65% of Rai Waymust maintain a stake of at least 30% in its towers business, but only if the sale is “compatible and consistent” with a industrial merger with Ei Towers. In particular, the Prime Ministerial Decree signed by the undersecretary Alfredo Mantovanoby delegation of Giorgia Meloni, underlines that «where compatible and in compliance with the current regulatory framework of reference, operations aimed at ensuring aggregation between entities in the same sector are favoured». Therefore, he continues, “any transactions involving the sale of minority shares can only take place if they are consistent and compatible with the purposes referred to in the previous period”. A combination between RaiWay and Ei Towers would create a national champion of transmission towers worth over 2 billion euros.
