Yesterday, Iraqi security sources revealed that the security forces were on alert after an explosive device exploded on an army unit patrol in the vicinity of the villages of Al-Hafriya, east of Salah al-Din Governorate.
The sources said, “The final toll of the explosion was one dead and four wounded,” adding, “The device was placed on the side of an agricultural road, and that the engineering teams began combing the area in anticipation of the presence of another device, noting that the device indicates the presence of sleeper cell activity in the area.”
She indicated that the security services adopted the principle of alert and began a combing operation on some slopes and areas near the site of the explosion, with intensification of inspections in the agricultural road crossings in depth.
For his part, a member of the Parliamentary Security Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, Ali Nimah, confirmed that the level of security violations decreased by 90% during the first third of 2024, but this does not mean the end of the threat of sleeper cells and the violations that occur from time to time in the governorates of Salah al-Din, Diyala, Kirkuk, and Anbar.
