Spain, Ireland and Norway recognized Palestine as an independent state
Three European countries – Spain, Ireland and Norway – have recognized Palestine as an independent state; the corresponding decision will come into force on May 28. This was stated by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
In response to this, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz announced the recall of ambassadors from Norway and Ireland for consultations and promised serious consequences. Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the decision to recognize Palestinian statehood.
Recognition of two states is intended to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre confirmed that the kingdom has officially recognized Palestine as an independent state. He stressed that a two-state solution could resolve the conflict and “provide a safe home for both Israelis and Palestinians.” Recognition of a Palestinian state “is a necessary condition for achieving peace in the Middle East.”
The Palestinian people have a fundamental independent right to self-determination. Both Israelis and Palestinians have the right to live in peace in their own states. There will be no peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez explainedthat recognition of Palestine is not directed against the people of Israel and does not benefit the radical group Hamas. This decision was made for the sake of “peace, harmony and justice.” Back in April, Sanchez stated that recognition of Palestine was of geopolitical interest for the countries of the European Union (EU).
Ireland’s position on official recognition of Palestine was confirmed by Prime Minister Simon Harris. “Ireland’s dream is for Israeli and Palestinian children to grow up to be peaceful neighbors. Both the Palestinian and Israeli people are inherently good and decent,” said head of the Irish government.
Israel recalls ambassadors in response to Palestinian recognition
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Jewish State, Israel Katz, has already announced retaliatory measures to the decision of the three European countries.
“Today I send a strong message to Ireland and Norway: Israel will not remain silent. I have just ordered the Israeli ambassadors from Dublin and Oslo to be recalled to Israel for urgent consultations in Jerusalem. The hasty move by the two countries will have further serious consequences. If Spain realizes its intention to recognize the state of Palestine, a similar step will be taken against it,” the minister said in a statement.
The Irish-Norwegian parade of stupidity does not stop us, we are determined to achieve our goals: restore the safety of our citizens, eliminate Hamas and return the abducted. There are no fairer goals than these
Together with Spain, Ireland and Norway, Palestine is recognized by 146 UN member countries. These are not the first European countries to declare the independence of an Arab state: Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Romania and Sweden did so before them. Palestine is also recognized by such countries as Russia, Ukraine, China, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Serbia. Some countries that recognize Palestine do not recognize Israel at the same time. For example, Lebanon, Algeria, Indonesia, Syria, and Iran did this.
