Chico Forti leaves prison in Miami. Return to Italy ever closer
Chico Forti he is no longer held in prison in Miami but is being held by the US Immigration Agency, awaiting transfer to Italy. Two or three weeks could be enough, according to a source close to the 65-year-old from Trentino, sentenced to life in prison in Florida for the murder of Dale Pike, which occurred on February 15, 1998.
Sources who follow the dossier closely are however more cautious, underlining that the average wait for delivery after the Italian ruling recognizing the foreign one is 4-5 months, a conversion decided in recent weeks by the Court of Appeal of Trento. The authorization for the transfer was announced by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during her visit to Washington on March 1st.
In Forti’s profile of the Florida Department of Correction, yesterday was added to the start date of custody, July 7, 2000, indicated as the release date. In the last few hours, in fact, the hearing was held in Miami in which Forti signed the agreement with the US federal judge to serve the rest of the sentence in Italy, where the Trento Court of Appeals has already converted in recent weeks the US ruling. It is the last step before returning. In the meantime, Forti is being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. According to sources close to him, he should be able to be transferred to Italy within two or three weeks.
