MotoGP, record at Le Mans
I like MotoGP more and more. Last weekend’s French Grand Prix in fact recorded the highest turnout in the history of the MotoGP, with 297,471 fans who filled the stands of the Bugatti Circuit. The record belonged to Le Mans itself, which welcomed 278,805 people in 2023.
Figures and numbers which can certainly be explained by the circuit and the desire to see the transalpine idol Fabio Quartararo up close, but which this year were further influenced by a spectacular championship, with the “three tenors” Marc Marquez, Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin competing for the World Championship on the Ducati.
The words of Ezpeleta
“The atmosphere at Le Mans is legendary and with good reason. The incredible roar of the crowd is one of the purest expressions of passion for sport in the world and it is a privilege to hear it“, commented CEO Dorna Carmelo Ezpeleta. “After Le Mans set a new all-time attendance record last season, the bar was high, but the 2024 French GP lived up to it. Nearly 300,000 people over the weekend is absolutely incredible and are testament to the world-class work done each year by Claude Michy (GP organizer, ed.). The event is exactly what we want every time we race: breathtaking racing on the track that fills the grandstands, combined with a full program of activities and entertainment to make every minute of the weekend something special for every fan. We thank Claude and his team for their commitment to MotoGP.
Two weeks ago Dorna had incorrectly communicated the number of 296,741 people in Jerez de la Frontera, then turning around and admitting the gross mistake (there were over 100 thousand fewer). This time the numbers should be correct and demonstrate the growth in popularity of the MotoGP, which in 2023 accumulated 500 thousand more attendances on the circuit compared to the previous year.
