Yesterday, the Greek Coast Guard announced that the bodies of three girls whose mother confirmed they were missing were found on an inaccessible rocky beach northwest of the Greek island of Chios after a migrant boat sank.
The Coast Guard said the children were three girls, ages five, seven and ten.
The authorities indicated that a large rescue operation for migrants was continuing.
The Greek Coast Guard stated that three naval ships have so far rescued 19 migrants, including 8 minors and the mother of the girls who drowned.
Greek media reported that the boat was carrying 27 passengers, most of whom were Afghans, but according to the Coast Guard, the number of passengers on board the boat that carried migrants from the Turkish coast is still uncertain.
The authorities added that they were informed by three Afghan migrants who were on board the boat and were able to swim to Chios Beach at night.
