The Czech Republic needs few excuses to be a perfect spring and summer travel destination. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Spanish tourists stay only in Prague, ignoring the rest of a country with regions as diverse as Bohemia or Moravia-Silesia, with cities with a medieval imprint declared a UNESCO world heritage site – such as Telč either Cesky Krumlov—, and where music and art are in the historical DNA of its population. Czechia is the country of Kafka – the centenary of whose death is celebrated this year -, of Smetana, Mucha and Kundera.
Here are six cultural proposals to do in Czech Republic in the coming months.
1. 2024, year of Czech music
The celebration of the Year of Czech Music includes a very extensive program (can be consulted here) that offers a very accurate representation of the cultural diversity of the country. Furthermore, it coincides with the celebration of the bicentenary of the birth of Bedřich Smetana, composer born in Litomyšl, recognized as the father of Czech music. The figure and work of the author of the opera most performed at the National Theater in Prague will be remembered, The sold brideunder the name of Smetana200.
