Santo Stefano d'Aveto. Val d'Aveto is hoping again for the (very late) ski season. Since this afternoon it has started snowing heavily again above 1,200 meters above sea level and in particular in the ski area, the only one currently present in Liguria. A few days ago a heavy snowfall had given rise to hopes of being able to open the slopes. But since Thursday the weather has changed: temperatures have risen, humidity has reached values over ninety percent. So the snow cover thinned to the point that it was impossible to open to skiers. However, the facilities worked over the weekend and the refuge at Prato della Cipolla (1585 meters above sea level) was opened. Despite the bad weather there was some movement. For those who climbed it was still an opportunity to go for walks or simply enjoy the mountains in a winter climate and with few people around. From late morning it started snowing again. This time the forecast speaks of many snow days at least in the ski area. There is therefore hope that the slopes will be able to open next weekend. But in Val d'Aveto, given the recent disappointments, there is a lot of caution about this hypothesis. More will be known between Thursday and Friday. (by Italo Vallebella)
