An unidentified driver tried to break into the Palácio da Alvorada, the official residence of the President of the Republic, in the early hours of this Saturday (24). The incident is being investigated by the Federal Police. At around 5pm, the PF reported having arrested the suspect and seized the vehicle.
The car would have violated the blockade, but without actually being able to approach the palace, whose entrance is approximately 400 meters away from the building. The individual then fled the scene in the car used in the attempted break-in.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and First Lady Janja Silva were at the residence at the time of the incident, but were safe. Without giving details about what happened, the PF informed, in a note, that it is awaiting information from the Institutional Security Office (GSI), of the Presidency of the Republic, responsible for blockades and approaches in the vicinity of the official buildings and residences of the president and vice president. “Measures are underway to locate the vehicle, as well as whoever was responsible for the attempt,” said the corporation.
The report contacted the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (Secom), which confirmed the incident, without details. The GSI, responsible for presidential security, was contacted, but has not responded so far.
