Ambassador Nasser Kamel, Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean, stressed the importance of the twenty-eighth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), to discuss the allocation of the necessary resources to confront the challenges resulting from the phenomenon of climate change, the damage resulting from which the world has recognized, noting that “COP28” will be decisive until this consensus is put into practice, expressing his full confidence that the conference will be, at the organizational and substantive level, one of the most successful climate conferences.
Kamel said that the United Arab Emirates presented a unique model in relation to its plans to reduce carbon emissions and achieve the goals of the international community by maintaining temperature levels not exceeding one and a half degrees, praising the energy shown by the conference presidency, represented by His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Technology. The President of the Conference of the Parties “COP28”, during the past months, in addition to the constructive efforts he has made and the preparations that we are witnessing, all confirm that the UAE will organize a global conference by all standards.
The Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean stressed that the UAE is distinguished by its huge logistical capacity and its ability to host important and large conferences and events, stressing his confidence in the success of “COP28”.
