Capcom doesn’t quite know how to approach the development of a new chapter in the Mega Man series and is considering what to do. In the last fifteen years, the company has only released three main chapters of the series, Mega Man 9 in 2008, Mega Man 10 in 2010 and Mega Man 11 in 2018, which has otherwise remained active thanks to several compilations.

During a Q&A session at his recent shareholder financial report, one attendee pointed out how the recent Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection has sold more than a million copies since its April 2023 launch, then ask what the Japanese publisher’s plans are for the series.
Capcom: “Including Mega Man 11, the latest installment in the series, Mega Man is one of Capcom’s historical intellectual properties, much loved by fans. For this reason we want to take care of the developments of the series.
We are evaluating how to approach the production of a new chapter in the series, which requires numerous factors, including the development of a solid concept, ideas and gameplay, etc.”
When asked if it has considered other retro conversions or collections, Capcom replied: “We are evaluating our approach to the conversions of the past chapters, which includes the resolution of some technical issues.”
According to internal data from Capcom, the Mega Man series has sold more than 38 million units in 36 years. It is one of the company’s best-selling intellectual properties, behind only Street Fighter (49 million units), Monster Hunter (92 million units) and Resident Evil (142 million units).
