National Weather Service indicates high chances of ice storms in the north of the country
O NWS, the US national meteorological service, published a bulletin this Wednesday (22.Feb.2023) warning of the risk of heavy snowfall in the north of the country. According to the website FlightAwaremore than 1,600 national and international flights have already been canceled and more than 5,000 are delayed.
In the document, the US body informs about strong winds that can reach up to 97 km/h in the most central areas of the country. There is a possibility of snowing 46 centimeters in some regions until Thursday (Feb 23). read the full of the bulletin (61 KB, in English).
“A large and prolonged winter storm will continue to spread heavy snow and blizzard conditions across portions of the West, Northern Plains and upper Midwest through tonight and Thursday (Feb. 23)”said the NWS.
The bulletin also warns of risks of power outages and risks of falling trees in the affected regions. Temperatures should stay up to 5°C below average.
The states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, South Dakota, Wyoming and Utah must face conditions meteorological more severe.
According to the NWS, the weather will be milder in most parts of the country until Friday (Feb 24), with the possibility of snow only in the west and northeast of the USA.

Earlier this month, the NWS recorded the heaviest snowfall in US history. According to the agency, the gusts of ice in New Hampshire, a state in the north of the country, produced the Thermal sensation -78 °C on 3 February.
