From January to June, comedy, drama and musicals will meet in the first programming prepared by the actor Jorge de Juan
A stable programming of performing arts finally returns to Cartagena. The Nuevo Teatro Circo raises the curtain once again with a program that will bring to this city some of the best national theater, music and dance companies, in addition to putting this cultural infrastructure “at the service of the municipal theater, its companies and the talent local”, according to the mayoress Noelia Arroyo, who presided over the presentation of the new programming, which bears the motto ‘The stage is yours’.
The act, which was also attended by the Councilor for Culture, David Martínez Noguera; and the mayor delegate of this area, Carlos Piñana, served as the official presentation of the actor and cultural manager Jorge de Juan as general coordinator of Cultural Projects and Performing Arts of the Cartagena City Council, a personal commitment of Mayor Arroyo.

The recovery of the Mudanzas festival was also announced at the event, under the supervision of its founder Marga Amante and the direction of Kike Guerrero from Cartagena, and the consolidation of the Mucho Más Mayo Festival.
“In addition to giving life to the Nuevo Teatro Circo with the new blood of those who are just beginning, we want to give the Cartagena public the best shows from the best national companies,” said Arroyo, referring to figures such as Pere Ponce, Blanca Portillo, Gabino Diego, Vicky Peña, Manuel Galiana, Elisa Matilla and many others, “who will join artists from the Region of Murcia to illuminate this new stage.”
The mayoress mentioned the two novelties that the world of theater is presenting this year, highlighting the transfer to municipal property of the Nuevo Teatro Circo de Cartagena and the incorporation of the aforementioned Jorge de Juan as coordinator of cultural projects, a responsibility for which he will charge 43,600 euros to the year (for 70% of his ordinary day).
The sum of these two novelties, he assured, has already begun to bear fruit “by defining the model of performing arts for Cartagena, which has a double direction: supporting local creators and giving the viewer the best possible programming.”
The program presented, the first of Jorge de Juan’s new stage, a varied offer with no surprises, starts the second week of January with Carlos Sobera and Plauto’s work ‘Miles Gloriosus’, and runs until the month of June with about twenty theatrical, musical and dance shows, with directors of the stature of Juan Mayorga, Helena Pimienta or Mario Gas.
On the 29th there will be a musical tribute to Mamma Mía (What a wedding mess!) and, on the 2nd of February, ‘Los pazos de Ulloa’.
On February 10, La Púa Escénica will present ‘Martirio Alba’. The month of February will close with ‘Silencio’, by Juan Mayorga (Princess of Asturias Award for Literature 2022), with Blanca Portillo as the only protagonist, and the latest from the Spanish Ballet of Murcia by the sisters Carmen and Matilde Rubio, ‘Penélope’. It will be on the 23rd and 25th, respectively.
