Driven by northwesterly winds, snowfall is already spreading around the Great Lakes and the precipitation is accompanied by lightning and strong gusts of wind, the agency said.

“This will produce near-zero visibility, make travel nearly impossible, damage infrastructure, and cripple the communities most impacted,” according to an NWS bulletin.
Snowfall advisories have been extended to the north of the state of New Yorkthe northwest of Pennsylvania and the northeast of Ohio, with winter storm warnings in southern and western Michiganand the north of Wisconsin.
A near-winter combination of wind and freezing rain is possible in West Texas as the cold front continues to move in from the Plains.

Meteorologists expect temperatures below seven degrees Celsius, which will be perceived more intense due to the wind.
