Package, approved by the House 81 days before the election, will cost an estimated R$ 41.25 billion
The Minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira (PP), said the new social benefits must be paid from August 9. The chamber approved on Wednesday (13.Jul.2022) the PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) which allows, among other things, to increase Auxílio Brasil from R$ 400 to R$ 600 and the value of the gas voucher to R$ 120 to every 2 months.
The text should be promulgated in a session of the National Congress later this week.
“The goal is to pay on the 9th [de agosto]” said Nogueira on Wednesday. The minister made the statement as he went to the plenary of the Chamber, from where he followed the vote.
The Auxílio Brasil calendar, however, is maintained. With this, the new amount must be released only on the payment date of August, the 18th of the next month.

The approval of the PEC represents a victory for the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The benefits package is the president’s main bet to increase his chance of reelection in October.
Voting intention polls show that he is at risk of losing to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (EN) already in 1st shift.
During the quick process, the text was criticized by the opposition, which classified the PEC as electoral. However, voting against the measures may have a high political cost for deputies who will seek reelection in October.
The benefits package approved 81 days before the election will have an estimated cost of BRL 41.25 billion. The measures will last until the end of the year.
