Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Modern Sailing and Rowing Federation, expressed his happiness with the levels presented by the UAE team in the 28th edition of the Al Bareh International Championship 2022 in Bahrain, in which he won 4 medals (gold, silver and bronze).
The closing ceremony and the distribution of medals to the winners were held under the patronage of Sheikh Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Bahraini and Arab Sailing Federations, and in the presence of Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan.
Emirati sailor Othman Al Hammadi won the gold medal in the Elka 4 boat category, while sailor Hamza Al Ali won bronze in the Elka 7 class, and in the Elka 6 boat category, the two sisters, Duha and Ghala Al Bishr, won the gold and silver medals.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan said: We extend our thanks and gratitude to our wise leadership for its unlimited support for all sporting activities and events, especially sailing and rowing, which are linked to our ancient maritime heritage.
The closing ceremony included a wonderful scene represented in the celebration of Sheikh Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the UAE sailing team player, Adel Al Khaled, who won the bronze in the Elca 7 World Championships, Master Class.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan and Mohammed Al Obaidli, Secretary-General of the Modern Sailing and Rowing Federation and member of the International Sailing Federation, attended the inauguration ceremony of Sheikh Khalifa bin Abdullah’s book titled “North Stroke”, which included a collection of stories and experiences he went through in his marine career. The book also touched on the role of the UAE. At the stage of spreading sailing sport in the Arab world, and the cooperation of the Gulf states in hosting international tournaments.
Al-Obaidli expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts of the General Sports Authority and the National Olympic Committee for their continuous support for the team’s efforts during this participation, and praised the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Ports Group, the strategic partner of the Federation, for what it provided to sponsor the UAE champions in this sport.
