1. What does the man who defied Trump say?
The Georgia Secretary of the Interior refused to rig the presidential election. Brad Raffensperger is now testifying again in the investigative committee for the storming of the Capitol.
Case Georgia: The committee investigating the storming of the Capitol wants to show that the action was planned and not a coincidence – further public hearings are planned for this. Today, Brad Raffensperger’s testimony is intended to shed light on the Georgia case. In the opinion of the panel, this proves that President Donald Trump, who was voted out, deliberately used illegal means to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after the lost election. As a reminder, Donald Trump had called Raffensperger, then the chief election supervisor in Georgia, to “find” enough votes to award him the state electorate. Raffensperger had already answered MPs’ questions in a non-public meeting of the committee.
Pressure on pence: For months, the investigative committee questioned hundreds of witnesses behind closed doors and secured evidence. Former Vice President Mike Pence adviser Greg Jacob told the committee last week how, in the days leading up to January 6, 2021, Trump and his attorney, John Eastman, pressured Pence not to authenticate Joe Biden’s election victory.
Trial against Trump? The panel’s evidence is designed to put pressure on Attorney General Merrick Garland to press charges against Trump. It would be the first trial against a former president for his official actions – and would possibly destroy Trump’s comeback plans.

2. Murder trial for two police officers who were killed begins
The case caused horror nationwide: At the end of January, a young police officer and a police officer were shot dead at close range during a traffic check. The alleged perpetrator is on trial today.
Motive: The accused is 39 years old and has to answer for murder before the district court of Kaiserslautern. At the end of January, he is said to have killed the 24-year-old police officer and her 29-year-old colleague near Kusel with several shots to cover up poaching. 14 appointments are planned before the district court until September 9th.
accusation: The public prosecutor assumes that the man was on the night of the crime with a 33-year-old man for hunting poaching. Among other things, she accuses the alleged perpetrator of two murders, “out of greed and to cover up a crime”. The 33-year-old has to answer, among other things, for attempted evasion of punishment. He is said to have helped cover up the tracks. There are no indications of limited culpability.
Raid: One day before the trial began, the authorities had searched numerous apartments nationwide on Monday in connection with hate comments on the murder of the two Rhineland-Palatinate police officers. According to the Rhineland-Palatinate Interior Minister Roger Lewentz (SPD), a total of 150 suspects are being investigated in 172 cases of criminally relevant statements.
