Golden State Warriors’ Klay Thompson was named “Clay Game Six” for his impressive performance in those crucial games, but said he’s not looking to force it into Game Six of the NBA Final.
Thompson had been building himself increasingly throughout the series, and the Warriors had a chance to beat the Boston Celtics on their way to winning their fourth title in eight years.
The Golden State Warriors are one victory away from the league title, advancing 3-2 in the series that is decided on the basis of the best in seven games, before they visit Boston tonight.
This is the first time that the Celtics have lost two consecutive knockout games this season.
“Obviously it’s a title I’ve earned and I want to live up to it,” Thompson told reporters. At the same time, I don’t want to go out there and play like I’m a hero. I’ll be myself, doing what I’ve been doing the past few games. I know winning will give us the title.
Thompson plans to tap into his decisiveness instinct, which he said means playing with “incredible intensity, strength and will”.
Thompson averaged more than 20 points and shot nearly 50% from outside the three-point arc in 12 sixth games of his career.
And in an unforgettable memory, Clay scored 41 points and 11 three-pointers, leading the Warriors to a thrilling comeback against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2016 Western Conference Final.
His team-mate Stephen Curry said: “Clay the sixth game, I don’t know how he was able to do that. He has a knack for these kind of big moments. He has another chance to add to that tale tonight.
