The woman was late for work and very tired: therefore, she did not immediately go to the doctor. Despite the discomfort, she worked all day and did not seek medical help until after the end of the working day.
Doctor Cai Yuanrong took an X-ray of the patient, but did not see a toothbrush on it. The endoscope showed that a foreign object was stuck in the esophagus and the tissue around it became inflamed. If the toothbrush were to get stuck in the patient’s intestines, it could rupture.
Yuanrong managed to extract it with a special endoscopic instrument. He stressed that for the first time in his practice, he encountered a case where someone accidentally swallows a toothbrush.
Earlier it was reported that doctors in the Israeli city of Haifa removed a needle stuck in the intestines of a teenager who accidentally swallowed it in 20 minutes. The boy told doctors that he was feeling well, but showed up for an appointment to make sure he was not in danger.
