Through an official site, LimeWire announced their return for May 2022only this time not as a service by users for users, but as a new platform for speculation with crypto technologies.
According to its creators and current directors, this new NFT market will focus on digital collectibles, such as collections of illustrations or avatars, but will have a special focus on music and the “art” world.
The official statement explains that:

Despite not explaining the implications of their platform for NFT well, they did reveal that there will be a special reward systemwhich will be what will bring this service back after more than 10 years of being closed.
Why did LimeWire disappear?
During the first decade of the 21st century, LimeWire and many other P2P file transfer services, such as Ares, MegaUpload, Napster or SoulSeek they were the meeting point for people who mainly enjoyed music.
These were the first great affront against the entertainment industry and the great conglomerate of record companies, which tried to stop them every year with much or little success, but they never disappeared.

However, over the years, services like iTunes weakened them. Finally, with the introduction of Spotify endorsed by the most important labels in the world, P2P services were disappearing slowly.
LimeWire closed its doors permanently in 2011 with endless lawsuits for piracy and copyright infringement on top. However, this 2022 they will make their return… we still don’t know if it will be successful or not.
