The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned yesterday that more than 150,000 pregnant women in Gaza face terrible health conditions and risks, especially with the adverse displacement movement from Rafah to the south due to the Israeli war.
The agency published on the “X” platform a picture of a skinny newborn girl in Gaza, and accompanied it with a comment: “Habiba was born in a small tent. She is two weeks old and weighs less than 2 kilos.”
She added: “More than 150,000 pregnant women in Gaza face terrible health conditions and risks amid displacement and war,” stressing that “no child in the world should suffer like this. We need a ceasefire now.”
In a previous post yesterday, the agency published a video showing its school building in Khan Yunis, which was clearly damaged by the bombing. However, the displaced people returned to it due to Israeli evacuation orders that began a week ago.
She considered that a new level of despair is unfolding before the eyes of the world with the exodus of Palestinians once again from Rafah towards Khan Yunis, where there is no water or infrastructure.
The agency commented on the video by saying: “Families and children return to UNRWA schools in Khan Yunis in search of safety and shelter,” noting, “Severe damage has been caused to these United Nations facilities. There is no water in Khan Yunis.”
