Aden (Al-Ittihad)
The Yemeni Meteorological Authority announced yesterday that it expects Cyclone Tej, which struck the cities and coasts of eastern Yemen, to recede to the level of a storm and gradually to a depression in the coming hours, after it had ranged between strong and very severe.
The Yemeni Meteorology Department added in updating the emergency bulletin that the warnings it issued remain in place for all regions and coasts in the Al-Mahra and Hadramaut governorates in eastern Yemen and their interior areas that were affected by Hurricane Tej, rains and torrential flows.
Yemeni meteorology renewed its previous warnings to fishermen, travelers, and seafarers to avoid sailing, and to citizens to avoid flood paths, valley bottoms, and low-lying areas.
In the same context, the Yemen Red Crescent Society announced the resumption of evacuation and rescue operations for those affected by the hurricane after stopping for more than 10 hours due to heavy rain, flowing torrents, and strong winds that prevented its crews from reaching those affected.
Hurricane “Tej” struck just before midnight last night on the eastern coast of Yemen, specifically in Al-Mahra Governorate, where the hurricane’s center passed, causing an almost complete interruption of transport and rescue operations, with it being impossible to reach many areas besieged by torrential waters.
