Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez was positive, following his team’s 2-0 victory over Almeria, in the 36th round of the Spanish Football League. Barcelona celebrated Xavi playing his 100th match as coach of the team, raising his score to 79 points in second place in the competition standings, 4 points ahead of Girona, which is in third place.
Real Madrid had won the competition title earlier this season, as it was at the top with 93 points. Xavi described the victory as important, in his statements to reporters after the match, taking “the minimum requirements for finishing second” into consideration.
The Barcelona coach expressed his enthusiasm for the start of next season, admitting his “desire to begin the preparation period for the new season,” despite his admission that “the club’s financial situation is not easy, but we, all of us, are working, and the administration is doing everything in its power to strengthen the team.”
During the statements reported by Barcelona’s official website, Xavi praised Fermin Lopez, who scored the team’s two goals against Almeria, saying: “The loan to the Linares team was great for him, after we tried him in the pre-season, and we saw that he was ready to compete.”
Xavi added: “He is dynamic, can finish attacks with both feet, does not lose the ball, and has the ability to score. We are looking for a player who can stay with us for years.” Xavi spoke about ending the current season without titles, saying: “The situation is not easy or pleasant. We want to fight for the titles that we failed to win this season. I have a really professional and committed team. “We are performing well to reach the Super Cup next season.”
