In a series of tweets, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said: “We have learned of Russia’s false allegations about US biological weapons laboratories and the development of chemical weapons in Ukraine.“.
She added that the Russian accusations were “preposterous,” noting that “we have also seen Chinese officials repeating these conspiracy theories.”
She added that it is possible that Russia is paving the way for the use of chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine or carrying out an operation and accusing others of being responsible for it, but she did not mention evidence of that.
“The Kremlin is deliberately spreading outright lies that the United States and Ukraine are conducting chemical and biological weapons activities in Ukraine,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.
“Russia is making up false pretexts in an attempt to justify its appalling actions in Ukraine,” he added.
In his statement, Price said, “This Russian disinformation is complete nonsense.”
He added that Moscow had a “track record of accusing the West of the same crimes committed by Russia itself.”
But the United States said Tuesday that it was cooperating with Kyiv to prevent Russian forces from seizing materials used in biological research in the country.
On March 6, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a tweet that Russian forces had found evidence that Kyiv had tried to erase the traces of a military-biological program in Ukraine, stressing that this project was funded by the United States.
